Dr. Suarez
Dr. Suarez is a post-doctoral resident who began his academic career at Miami-Dade College, where he majored in psychology. He then attended the University of Miami and Florida International University, majoring in psychology. Dr. Suarez transferred to Albizu University, where he finished his Bachelor's in Psychology. Dr. Suarez graduated from the undergraduate program with a Bachelor's in Psychology with a minor in LGBT studies and Health Psychology.
Dr. Suarez received a Master's in Psychology from Albizu University in August 2019. He received a Doctorate of Clinical Psychology from Albizu University with a concentration in Health Psychology in August of 2023. Dr. Suarez created a program design for the treatment of transgender and gender non-binary adolescents and their families as his final doctoral project. During his time at Albizu, he was also a member of, and student government liaison for, Albizu University's Psi Chi chapter; a peer mentor; the Social Profession Development Chair for the Child Psychology Club; and the Student Council President.
Dr. Suarez taught for eight years at private, public, and charter schools for kindergarten thru 12th-grade students with varying academic abilities. Working in the field of education, he facilitated several groups and saw first-hand how mental health difficulties affect student learning and success. He has facilitated groups for substance abuse, family therapy, couples, DBT Skills, gender identity, LGBTQIA2S+, and sexuality issues. Sean has worked with individuals, families, and couples with problems ranging from severe mental health disorders to re-establishing family cohesion. He also has substantial training in psychological assessments, including psychodiagnostic & psychoeducational testing.
Dr. Suarez utilizes an eclectic therapeutic approach, incorporating modalities from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Bowenian Family Systems, Gottman's Couples Counseling, Adlerian Therapy, Roger's Person-Centered Therapies, Feminist Therapy, Psychodynamic Psychotherapies. Art Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Play Therapy, and Trauma-Informed care.
