Dr. Otero

Dr. Ilenisse Otero is a Clinical Psychologist with a doctoral degree from Ponce Health Sciences University, an APA-accredited program, and a Bachelor’s in Social Work from Interamerican University of Puerto Rico. Her professional journey is rooted in her passion for human resilience and her belief that meaningful change is possible when individuals are seen, heard, and supported without judgment.

Dr. Otero has extensive experience working with adults, young adults, couples, and caregivers, particularly in areas related to trauma, anxiety, depression, emotional regulation, parenting, and domestic violence. As a mother herself, she brings deep empathy and understanding to the unique challenges faced by parents, offering practical support and emotional validation to those balancing caregiving with their own healing journeys.

She has a strong background in psychoeducational programming and has designed and led numerous workshops across Puerto Rico, including programs for the Department of Education, Head Start, and shelters for women survivors of violence. Her work emphasizes resilience, healthy attachment, and empowerment through education and therapy.

Dr. Otero’s therapeutic style is warm, reflective, and collaborative. She draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Humanistic approaches. Her work is trauma-informed and integrates Positive Discipline principles when working with parents and caregivers. She believes that clients are the experts of their own stories and sees her role as a guide in helping them reframe and rewrite those narratives toward healing and growth.

She provides inclusive, affirming care to diverse populations, including the LGBTQ+ community, and her work is grounded in cultural sensitivity, emotional safety, and respect. Therapy with Dr. Otero is available in both English and Spanish, in person and online.
